I am so blown away by God's grace and faithfulness these past few weeks! It is so hard to think that exactly four weeks ago our awesome midwife Gina discovered the heart murmur that would eventually lead to the discovery of Evie's heart defect.
Last we updated you all, we had just gotten Evie's surgery scheduled (Here is the last post, in case you want to refresh). Well pre-op and surgery went very very well!
We left Pueblo Thursday morning at 4:30 anticipating there to be slick roads and lots of traffic, but we actually arrived and hour early than we needed to. The wonderful Sarah greeted us and took us to get all of Evie's labs and x-rays done and helped us to our pre-op appointment. (Unfortunately they don't allow you to take pictures of the staff, otherwise I would have gotten pictures of everybody who took care of Ms.Evie)
The surgery the next day went as smoothly as it could have gone. Before Evie went into surgery, her surgeon came out to talk to us and to go over the procedure one more time. He (and the other doctors and nurses) kept saying its "just" a coarctation repair in a way that meant that this was something they did all the time and specialized in. Such a comfort!
The process of putting her to sleep and putting in her central line, IV, and arterial line took longer that the actual surgery, and by lunchtime she was out and starting to wake up. It broke my heart to see her in such a frail condition, but knowing she was whole and well and that God had taken care of her was such a relief.
She was head so fast, that they discharged her just four days later.
Last week we went back up to Denver for a post-op appointment and to get her stitches taken out, and this past Monday we visited Evie's regular doctor (whom also helped diagnose her murmur) and both gave her a clean bill of health! Next week we have an appointment with the cardiologist in Colorado Springs, and from that appointment we will probably be able to figure out exactly when we will be able to return to Haiti!
I am in awe of how God made this all happen. I still don't quite understand His purpose in it all yet, but I know He had us in His hands the entire time.
Thank you all so much for all of your prayers and support!
